The U.S. Dept. of State has just released the information for this year’s Diversity Visa Lottery. The Diversity Visa Lottery provides opportunities for immigrants from countries which are less represented in the immigrant mix to come to the U.S. as “diversity immigrants.”
There is no cost to register for the DV program. Applicants who are selected in the program (selectees) must meet simple but strict eligibility requirements to qualify for a diversity visa. The Dept. of State selects eligible persons through a randomized computer drawing which distributes diversity visas among six geographic regions.
For DV-2022, persons born in the following countries are not eligible to apply: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kong SAR), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.
Please be on your guard against companies with look-alike websites offering to file applications for the DV Lottery. Most of these are fraudulent and they do not offer any advantage over a self-filed registration.
